A track dedicated to Wendell Brown, a Detroit native currently incarcerated in China. Brown was living in China to teach American Football to Chinese children. He was wrongfully put in prison for getting into an alleged physical altercation with Chinese natives at a Chongqing, China nightclub. It was reported that the Chinese clubgoers, seemingly intoxicated, asked Brown to join them in taking a picture. After Brown refused the offer, the clubgoers allegedly threw a glass bottle at him. Wendell testifies that he put his arms up in self-defense of the glass making contact with his face. He spent almost two years in prison and in June of 2018, a China judge sentenced him to 4 more years in prison after giving him a guilty verdict. He is now waiting for his appeal and his family is working diligently with the U.S. State Department to get Wendell Brown back home.
lyrics
Verse:
I ain’t gotta know you brother to feel you,
Once you show them your power,
They’ll try to kill you,
They’ll Willie Lynch you,
Take your pride and your mental,
It’s instrumental in breaking down,
What they don’t understand,
Their minds are simple,
Reminds me of the shit those white folk kept us going through,
All these years,
The fears they have, kept us in bondage
It just proves,
The reason why, it took so long for them to come and get you,
The reason why I’m just seeing Fox coverage on the news about you,
It’s been almost two years,
I saw your family in tears,
Working hard to get you back there,
They gave you four more years,
Shit,
Two times as hard to swallow,
When folks know you’re innocent,
But I admire your optimism,
And fearlessness
Last year before I became a product of this China,
Living,
I was still in awe,
Back in America,
Because what I saw
Was opportunities,
That most brothers would never get,
Exploring the arts, teaching sports,
pursuing entrepreneurship
Shit,
That’s a place for me,
Sign me up, ASAP
I’ll come by way of teaching English,
Just let me plant the seed
Let me see what the world has to offer me
I know this probably sounds familiar,
Bruh,
And honestly,
I’m not one to generalize,
I know you’ve seen your share
Of good people
Surrounding you in life,
Over here on the East side of the world,
Just like I’ve seen them too,
But of course you get the ones,
That make you wonder,
Why the hell you came to do what you do
It’s never been easy for us bruh,
You know as much as I do,
But you’ve been strong up to now,
Tryna maintain good moods,
I’m just be tryna figure out,
How you be keeping your cool,
Writing LOL’s in letters,
Making sure God shows through
During those moments,
When you’re down, feeling hopeless
Just remember,
That you got people on the outside keeping their focus,
Tryna get you out
This worlds cruel,
But stay sane bruh
I hope this letter finds you well
Sincerely,
Heyse
And that's it,
Hook:
From a brother to a brother,
I ain't gotta know you,
It's all one love, one love
From a brother to a brother,
I didn't have to know you prior,
It's all one love, one love
